Last week, young people from around the world organised thousands of Climate Strikes to demand urgent action on the climate crisis.
Last year, millions of people took to the streets to demand climate action. Politicians congratulated the youth and portrayed them as beacons of hope. However, the same politicians failed to act.
As extreme weather events, fires and floods caused by the climate crises accelerate across the world, the strikes are a reminder to those in power that the climate crisis has not gone away. For people in the areas most affected by the climate crisis, this is not a protest for the future alone, it’s a protest for the present.
But there is hope – hope in the leadership of our young people, hope in our collective power, and hope in our unwavering faith in justice.
